DTO-p: Digital Twin Ocean Precursor

Contact Us

Considering the long-term goal for Digital Twin Ocean (DTO) of being a virtual representation of the marine environment including all its known features and dynamics, the DTO-p project proposes to:

  • Define a concept of a DTO, implement and demonstrate to a relevant stakeholder community and ESA;
  • Create a solid scientific and technical basis upon which the Destination Earth vision proposed by the EU can be realized
  • Explain and simulate two very distinct ocean phenomena in two very contrasting marine basins: marine heatwaves in the Mediterranean Sea and sea ice breaking in the Arctic Ocean.
  • Ifremer

Ifremer is the Prime Contractor and Scientific Lead of the DTO-p project. Ifremer will also support the DTO demonstrators by making available to partners both processing resources and EO databases, on Datarmor storage and HPC facility.
  • +ATLANTIC

+ATLANTIC is the entity responsible for the project management of DTO-p (WP5000). +ATLANTIC is also the leader of WP4000 (“Promotion and communication”).
  • CLS

CLS is the entity responsible for the demonstrator focused on marine heatwaves in the Mediterranean Sea. CLS is also the leader of WP1000 (“Stakeholder engagement and DTO consolidation”).
  • Lobelia

Lobelia is the entity responsible for the visualization of the demonstrators, making usage of the Globe Story Engine, in which stories are built upon the concept of scrollytelling.
  • Mercator

Mercator Ocean International is the entity responsible for the user integration, pilots’ selection, services to users, training, communication, and support activities. Mercator is also the leader of WP2000 (“DTO development and demonstration”)
  • NERSC

NERSC is the entity responsible for the demonstrator focused on sea ice breaking in the Arctic Ocean.
  • Thales Alenia Space

Thales Alenia Space is the entity responsible for the implementation in the DIAS platform. TAS is also the leader of WP3000 (“Analysis and elaboration of implementation roadmap”).

The objective of DTO-p is to define a concept of a Digital Twin Ocean (DTO), implement and demonstrate to a relevant stakeholder community and the Agency, an instance consistent and coherent with the said concept, thereby creating a solid scientific and technical basis upon which the Destination Earth vision proposed by the EU can be realized.
